Quail Creek Nurses Travel Back In Time

Janine Baxter

On May 22, the Quail Creek Nurses enjoyed a memorable day of streetcars and apothecary jars. Under the gracious hosting of Shauna Simmons, five enthusiastic nurses boarded the Sun Link Streetcar and headed to the University of Arizona campus for a visit to the Coit Museum of Pharmacy.

We were treated to a personal tour led by Quail Creek’s very own Ted Myrick. It was a true trip down memory lane. We marveled at the variety of instruments, equipment, and medications from days gone by and reminisced about many charming relics from our own childhoods. What a wonderful reminder that the town pharmacies of the past were so much more than dispensaries! They were community hubs offering prescriptions, sundries, toys, ice cream, and everything in between. We wrapped up the day with a delicious Italian lunch at Bacio Italiano on University Boulevard. Of Note: Admission to the museum is free, and every one of us would highly recommend a visit to anyone looking for a nostalgic and fascinating outing.

Our next monthly gathering will be held on Tuesday, June 16 from 10 a.m. to noon at Posada Java, hosted by Janine Baxter. We’ll be discussing The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon. It is a captivating historical mystery novel inspired by the life and diary of Martha Ballard, an 18th-century midwife. Each attendee will purchase their own coffee and breakfast item as desired.

Lastly, we want to make sure to invite all active and retired nurses in the Quail Creek community to join us in 2026. We are always welcoming new members. There are no membership fees. We typically meet once per month and nurses can participate in any and all activities that are of interest to them. Questions?
