What do you get when you add together seven members of The Women of Quail Creek (TWOQC) and an afternoon of hatchet throwing? Only adventure, lots of giggles, camaraderie and fun!

On March 13, the new TWOQC programs group called Girls Day Out met at St. Hubert’s Hatchet House on West Prince Road in Tucson to enjoy each other’s company, a few brownies, and a little hatchet and four-sided metal star throwing. After all, St. Hubert is the patron saint of hunters and loggers. We were sure that he would protect us, even though it was the dreaded Friday the thirteenth.

As explained on the St. Hubert’s website, “Axe throwing is a sport that has come down from the wild regions of Canada and involves throwing a hatchet 15 feet and sinking the blade into a set of fresh pine target boards.” After 30 minutes of instruction from our very own coach, the adventure began. The fundamentals taught us all we needed to know to share in a rip-roaring competition among one another. Team We’re Better in the Morningand team Molly Hatchettcheered each other on. And believe it or not, we even had a bullseye or two.

This sport was a pure pleasure and is sure to be added as a yearly competition for The Women of Quail Creek!
