Tips for Using Essential Oils to Sustain Your Winter Wellness

JoAnne Guadioso

On Feb. 2, 2022, the mighty groundhog came out of his burrow and saw his shadow, predicting six more weeks of winter. So we may still be feeling the effects of winter on our wellness. With chilly days and unpredictable weather, it is important to do everything we can to make sure that everyone in our home makes healthy choices to maintain their wellness.

To keep your family well through the remaining days of winter, check out these tips to help you stay healthy.

1. Lather your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth as much as possible throughout the day. Tip: Make a foaming hand wash with On Guard essential oil.

2. Drink plenty of liquids. Staying hydrated is important for keeping mucous membranes moist, so they can effectively fight off irritants. Aim for two liters of water a day for effective hydration. Tip: Add a drop of lemon essential oil to a glass of water to cleanse your system. Or warm up with a Winter Wellness Tea: Add two drops of wild orange essential oil, one drop of lemon essential oil, and one drop of On Guard to a cup of tea.

3. Maintain your wellness by eating healthy to get the vitamins and nutrients your body requires. Help support a healthy immune system by adding supplements to your diet.

4. Get plenty of rest. Lack of sleep can cause stress, which weakens the immune system. Tip: Create a calm atmosphere in your room in the evening. Turn electronic devices off and diffuse your favorite essential oil to invite peace before bedtime. My favorite sleepy time diffuser blend is: three drops of Serenity, three drops of Breathe, and three drops of Roman chamomile.
