DCQC’S Women in Blue’s Luncheon a Huge Success

The presenters are Bonnie Heidler, chair of the Pima County Democratic Party (on the left), and Carol Smith, vice president of Democratic Club of Quail Creek (seated).

Sept. 28 was the club’s monthly luncheon held in the Madera Clubhouse Ballroom. Joining our Democratic Club of Quail Creek (DCQC) women were members from Green Valley Democrats.

Our gathering was extra special because the focus included a presentation about Clothed in Compassion, a program of Eagle’s Wings of Grace in Tucson. Eagle’s Wings of Grace is a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that focuses on empowering disadvantaged women who are making the difficult transition from poverty or life-altering situations to long-term economic independence. Eagle’s Wings is dedicated to hope, renewal, and change.

After learning about the organization and its programs, a call went out to Democratic women for clean, gently used women’s work clothing including shoes and accessories such as handbags and scarves. And, WOW! That call was answered.

April Ritchie, president of Tucson’s Eagle’s Wings of Grace, was on hand to gratefully receive the donations. She spoke about the clothing program and how trained volunteers work one-on-one with women to create a professional wardrobe, selecting from donated clothing organized in an onsite shop-inspired setting.

From their website: “Thanks to the generosity of the Arizona community, our Clothed in Compassion program has provided women with interview outfits and professional attire to secure and maintain employment. Today, Eagles Wings of Grace has expanded its offerings, providing a comprehensive approach to renewal that includes: career preparedness; professional attire; mentorships; financial management classes; preventive health education; and faith-based guidance and study.”

Eagle’s Wings of Grace is well worth considering if you are looking for a worthy organization to share your time, talents, and don’t forget, treasure, with.
