Travel Accommodation Alternatives

Joyce Shumate

On Friday, April 15, at 2 p.m., the Let’s Travel Club will have two Quail Creek residents share their knowledge for travel accommodation options. Do you like to travel? Would you like to explore new areas all over the world? Would you like to save on accommodations while traveling? Transportation would be about your only extra cost over daily living expenses. Try house sitting! Dave and Linda Carver, Quail Creek residents, have been doing house sits for about six years—as short as three days and as long as five months. They are planning more. They will tell you what they have learned and answer questions.

Have you ever taken a chance renting a condo or home directly from the owner or through a service such as VRBO? Did you have some concern that the rental might not live up to the description and slick pictures or, even worse, the place doesn’t exist? In order to ease those concerns, Bruce and Pam Schroeder, Quail Creek residents, have offered to develop a database accessible by Let’s Travel Club members composed of homes or condos offered for rent by other Let’s Travel Club members plus recommendations of rentals members have enjoyed themselves. The database would be searchable based on various criteria, such as location, type, and amenities, and would include links to find out more information or secure a rental. Bruce and Pam will speak at the April meeting about this project and gauge interest in such a database.
