On Saturday, May 16, the Quail Creek Democratic Club and the Green Valley Democrats co-hosted “A Fun Afternoon with David Fitzsimmons,a fundraiser for the Democrats in the rural counties throughout Arizona.

Fitzsimmons, an internationally syndicated political cartoonist, humor columnist, and blogger, retired from the Arizona Daily Star in 2022 after more than 36 years of “scribbling and scratching.” He also served as auctioneer for the event.

Both the live and silent auctions featured a wide range of appealing items, including beautiful Blue Wave glass sculptures, a gourmet dinner for eight, a steak dinner for six, each prepared by a Quail Creek resident. Other items in the lineup were DeGrazia prints, a six-hour docent Pima Air Museum tour, several lovely pottery totemsthe offerings that inspired enthusiastic bidding.

The tempting finger-food buffet delivered a variety of flavors while enhancing the afternoon’s warm and friendly atmosphere.

The program also included special guests, each of whom briefly shared their platform for the upcoming July 21 primary:

Aiden Swallow, Candidate AZ State Representative LD19

Jackie Anderson, Candidate AZ State Representative LD19

Bob Karp, Write in Candidate for State Senate LD19

Nick Mansour, Candidate State Treasurer

Also attending was Brian Johnson, recently elected Pima County Treasurer.

The lively event was fun and brought the community together for an enjoyable afternoon.

The Women in Blue (WIB) luncheon held in April welcomed Patrick Robles, District Director for Congresswoman Adelita Grijalva and Jordan Toyos, Southern Arizona Outreach Coordinator for Senator Ruben Gallego.
