Tennis Club Says ‘Adios’ to Winter Visitors

Serapes, sombreros, and maracas brought a touch of Old Mexico to the Quail Creek Tennis Club’s Cinco de Mayo celebration. From the lively guitar music, colorful table decorations, delicious taco bar with all the toppings, to a margarita station even Jimmy Buffett would envy, no detail was overlooked in this final social event of the season.

And it really wouldn’t be a Cinco de Mayo fiesta without a proper piñata bashing. Approximately 40 hopefuls tried their hand at the club’s tennis-inspired version. Instead of direct contact, the piñata was placed at ground level on the far side of the court. Contestants selected a tennis racket and were allowed three serves, attempting to hit the piñata. ¡Ay, caramba! Definitely not as easy as it sounds! Balls that came close were greeted with “oohs” and “ahhs,” but only one player, Hilary Wade, earned bragging rights with her direct hit.

A tip of the sombrero goes to Social Committee members Sylvia Arnold and Dinah Shumway for a perfect end to a fun, delicious, and friendship-affirming year. We look forward to our winter visitors’ return later in the year when the Social Committee will once again work their magic.
