Building Community: The Ultimate Guide to Successful Block Party

With the nice weather we are having (albeit a bit warm this spring), I’d like to share that one of the best ways to create a vibrant, connected neighborhood is organizing a successful unit block party. These events help turn a group of houses into a true community, welcoming new homeowners and strengthening ties between long-time neighbors.

Here is a guide to hosting a safe and engaging Quail Creek unit block party:

Involve Residents in Planning

Engaging your neighbors in the planning process. You might consider creating a planning committee or recruit volunteers to handle different aspects of the event, such as food, entertainment, and logistics.

Plan Engaging Activities

Organize a variety of activities to ensure everyone feels included. Ideas include:

* Seasonal fun: potluck meals or BBQs.

* Themed events: A Hawaiian Luau featuring a roast pig, or a Halloween party

* Entertainment: live music.

Safety and Compliance First

While the goal is fun, the POA Board must ensure the party adheres to community rules and local laws.

* Communication: Provide full details of Unit party to the General Manager and/or Supervisor of patrol

* Insurance & Contracts: Submit vendor contracts for caterers or entertainment and verify proper insurance coverage if applicable

* Street Closures: If the party requires closing private roads, ensure proper authorization and that emergency vehicles can still access the area.

Promotion and Participation

* Open Invites: Ensure all households are invited to encourage maximum attendance.

* Potluck Style: Encourage residents to bring a dish to share, which reflects the diversity and encourages interaction.

* Cleanup Team: Encourage residents to participate in the cleanup afterward, fostering a sense of shared responsibility.

A well-planned unit block party is a joyful, casual, and accessible way to boost engagement within your unit. Please reach out for more information at melani.caron@robson.com.
