Needlework Club: Gifted Hands, Giving Hearts

Carolyn Good

The QC Needlework Club began in 2003 and provides members with a place to gather in a relaxed, friendly environment while crafting useful items through knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and sewing. Work on a project of your choice—whatever you enjoy. No experience is needed. We can provide supplies for charity projects (yarn, needles and hooks, fabric, thread, sewing machines), as well as ideas or patterns for projects. Check out some of our sewing projects: walker caddies, neck pillows, sundresses, shorts, aprons, bags, quilts, and more! Someone is always available to give guidance and advice, whether you are learning or refreshing skills.

A large portion of what we produce is donated to meet the needs of local charitable organizations, including Aviva Children’s Services, Salvation Army, St. Andrew’s Children’s Clinic, and Valley Assistance Services. In 2023 the club donated a record 2,207 items, including hats, headbands, bags, blankets, shawls, sundresses, shorts, burp cloths, neck pillows, and many other items. We also helped with some special projects, including kitty blankets for the Animal League and children’s book bags for The Women of Quail Creek community outreach.

A special thanks to everyone who purchases items during craft sales, Open Houses, and from our window. Proceeds we receive from people like you go to purchasing supplies for our members to turn into articles someone else will use and enjoy. We also appreciate everyone who donates fabric, yarn, thread, and other sewing supplies.

We invite you to join your neighbors who have discovered or rediscovered the joys of needlework! Drop in and visit during any of our sessions in the Creative Arts & Technology Center building, Studio 104, on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon and Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m.
