Laura McMurtry, PharmD, CDE, CF L1/L2, RYT 200 Yoga Instructor, NASM CPT, BLS/CPR/AED, SSC
Laura has been in Quail Creek since February 2019 when she started working at Anza Fitness Center. She then became a resident. She has more than 20 years of experience as a certified personal trainer, yoga instructor, and certified diabetes educator. Laura is qualified to help with your fitness needs by focusing on functional movement, corrective exercises, flexibility, group fitness, kettlebells, corporate wellness, emergency medicine, medication therapy management, pain management, diabetes education, as well as pre- and post-rehabilitation training. Laura attended the University of Arizona and obtained her doctor of pharmacy degree after her son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2006. She has overcome her own challenges in weight loss, hormone imbalance, and adrenal fatigue through nutrition, fitness, and lifestyle changes. Putting knowledge into practice, Laura has helped many clients achieve their goals by addressing nutrition, exercise, activities of daily living, educating on awareness, and prevention of disease.
Stephen McMurtry, CPT, BLS/CPR/AED
Steve achieved nutrition and physical training experience through various accomplishments. To name a few, he rode bulls and broncs in the rodeo, played rugby for the University of New Mexico, and competed in the Organization of Competitive Bodies as an all-natural bodybuilder, achieving Mr. Southwest and 2nd in the masters division at age 50. Inspired by Laura’s passion for the residents of Quail Creek and their well-being, Steve retired from his career in the auto collision repair industry to devote time to work with his neighbors, friends, and community. He recently graduated from Body Design University with his L1 personal trainer certification and is currently working on his L2 certification, as well as SilverSneakers® certification.
Laura and Steve’s passion is to help their community, inspire others, and make an impact in the lives here in Quail Creek. They teach HIIT-Fit and the Senior Balance classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays and can help you with your fitness goals, learn about the equipment available at Anza, and are certified on functional movement and corrective exercises for injuries/recovery and chronic mobility challenges. They enjoy keeping up-to-date with the changes within the fitness industry and continuing education for nutrition. They love being active, working out, competing, eating right, challenging themselves, spending quality time with family and friends, and helping others do the same. their goal is to help you achieve the freedom and mobile quality of life you desire. The triad of health and wellness, wellbeing, and improving the quality of life includes nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle changes.
