The Democratic Club of Quail Creek and the Green Valley Democrats have joined to host monthly gatherings for liberal and progressive women in the Green Valley/Sahuarita area. We call ourselves the Women In Blue, and we always wear blue to the events. The latest event was held in Quail Creek at the home of Carol Smith. The weather cooperated to welcome 34 like-minded women to relax and socialize. We are a garrulous group. Open discussion topics included politics, books, politics, recipes, politics, travel, politics, holiday plans, politics, grandchildren, and … politics, of course!

Both clubs offer numerous opportunities to socialize, support local charities, and discuss issues of importance locally, statewide, and nationwide. The participation of our part-time residents at this time of year is especially welcome since we hear about experiences and challenges from other parts of the country.

In December, the Women In Blue provided support for Sister José Women’s Center in Tucson by collecting gifts for the homeless women they serve.

The Women In Blue events are lunches held on the fourth Thursday of each month, with the exception of November when no gathering is scheduled, and December when it is held earlier in the month. The next gathering will be on Jan. 25 at Los Agaves Restaurant in Green Valley. To keep up to date on the activities and to reserve a seat at the luncheons, contact Jeanne Buell at [email protected] to be added to our mailing list.
