Cool Car Club closes season

After 1,350 miles, two overnight trips and eight total events the Quail Creek Cool Car Club brought its current season to a close with its final outing on April 12. During this season, club members hiked the Thompson Arboretum, checked out the annual hot air balloon festival in Yuma, visited the Desert Museum for a private tour and lunch, enjoyed a street car ride and private showing at the Flandrau Planetarium in Tucson, drove to Phoenix to visit two Frank Lloyd Wright sites, the Biltmore Hotel and Taliesin West, tested their mettle and team work skills in the third annual Road Rally (The entry fees from this year’s rally resulted in a $300 donation to the Green Valley Food Bank) and supported the third annual Car Show at Quail Creek to benefit Hands of a Friend with a $8,189 donation. Thank you, Jack Davis and Angie Werner, for organizing this great event the most successful Car Show so far.

For this year’s final event, 34 club members signed up for a mini-golf tournament that was held in Tucson at Golf N Stuff. Eight foursomes and one twosome spread out across the front nine holes for a shotgun start. Scoring was calculated by taking the total of all players on a team. The score for the twosome was doubled to make it a “foursome score.” This aggregate scoring camouflaged the triple bogeys contributed by any team member. The top three teams were First Place: The Good & The Bad – Martin and Jill Wibbenhorst. Debate continues on who was the good and who was the bad but some insight was gained when Jill was declared the Most Valuable Player on this team. Second Place: Double Trouble – Rick and Linda Hunnicutt and Jim and Kay Bar. Third Place: Snowman – Thom and Anita Sharples and Dean and Margie Woodard.

Following golf our intrepid band of CC Riders (Cool Car Club Members) took the sidewalk next door to Trail Dust Town, home to the Pinnacle Peak Steak House. We were given our own room for dining and golf lies.
