The Greater Green Valley Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will once again be offering its free Basic Training course starting in April. The course, for those 18 years and older, will be offered in two phases:
Phase I: The online training will start on April 1. Taken individually at the participant’s own pace, the course takes about 12 hours to complete. The online training must be completed by April 23. Topics are disaster preparedness, disaster medical, disaster psychology, fire safety, light search and rescue, and CERT and terrorism.
Phase II: During the classroom sessions and under the supervision of a trained coach, participants will demonstrate knowledge gained and skills learned during Phase I. This practical phase will be two four-hour sessions on April 25 and 26, followed by a practical exercise on April 27 (times to be announced). To graduate, participants must attend all sessions.
There is no obligation to join CERT or respond to a community emergency after completion of the course. Those who do join will receive a CERT Kit and shirt.
This free CERT training will benefit anyone who takes it by increasing one’s ability and confidence to safely help oneself, family, and neighbors.
The Phase II sessions will be held at the Green Valley Fire District Training Center at 1285 W. Camino Encanto.
