Golf Maintenance

Noah Gessler

The first week of June we are going to begin some of our summer closures for aerification. Beginning on June 1, we have a contracted fairway aerification on Coyote and Quail. Together with the fairway aerification we will be doing a relatively heavy fairway topdress as well. This is to get some of this sand worked into the aerification holes to continue to work to improve water infiltration and air exchange. While these courses are closed, we will also be performing our larger core aerification on those greens. This is where we will remove the cores and incorporate new sand into the holes. A couple of weeks later we will have a closure on Roadrunner to do the fairway aerification and the contractor will also do a deep core aerification of those greens and our two practice greens.

These closures throughout the summer are disruptive to play but they are necessary in order to continue to improve the overall conditions of the golf courses. Summer is the best time to do these things as the warm temperatures will allow for the turf to recover.
