On March 4, 11 Quail Creek Lapidary & Jewelry Club (QCLJC) members attended a foundational class in Chainmaille Techniques. Instructor Kaye Miller, assisted by Carol Wiser, introduced participants to the basics of this beautiful, timeless jewelry skill. The class covered needed tools, types of metals, working with jump rings, and information on setting up a workspace in your home. As the class learned the basics, each participant constructed a simple chain bracelet.
The class closed with a discussion on how the role of size and proportions is critical in supporting weave, patterns, and draping, which produce the intricate designs you see in chainmaille jewelry.
What a fun and informative day in the QCLJC studio, and a new world of possibilities begins.
