Parkinson’s Lecture: Moving with Intent, November 4

Jane Bottlinger

For people with Parkinson’s disease (PD), intent is the key. Moving is automatic for most people. It requires little thought. However, automatic movements use a lot of dopamine, the neurotransmitter that is in short supply for people with PD. Using intent bypasses the parts of the brain that use the most dopamine.

Learn more about two exercises (Nordic walking and boxing) that use intent at the lecture on Nov. 4 at 2 p.m., presented by the Parkinson’s Support Group of Green Valley, at GVR Las Campanas Center, 565 W. Belltower Drive. The lecture “Moving with Intent” is free and open to the public. Speakers will be Linda Lemke and Laura and Steve McMurtry.
