When teaching a group class, it is necessary to keep the subject matter to that which is of interest and benefit to the majority, which is why Gary offers Intermediate Bridge Classes on Sunday afternoons from 1-3 p.m. in the Mesquite Room and a series of Beginning Bridge Classes on Friday mornings from 9-11 a.m. in the Mesquite Room. However, there are times when special classes are needed for special topics.
Therefore, Gary is offering the following all-day seminars this winter:
1) Cue Bidding: This seminar covers the various meanings of cue bids of the opponents bid suit. When your side bids a suit that the opponents have bid first, it is rarely natural. In some situations, the cue bid has a very specific definition. In others, it is simply a way of forcing partner to bid. We will also be talking about control-bidding (showing controls for slam), which is, confusingly, also often referred to as cue bidding.
Saturday, Feb. 1, 9 a.m.–noon and 1:30–4:30 p.m. in the Quail Creek Clubhouse Silver Room. Cost for the day is $10.
2) Slam Bidding: This seminar covers the various ways of bidding slams — how to get to the good slams and how to stay out of the bad ones. We will cover Key Card Blackwood, Gerber, Control showing bids, 2C openers and responses, the four power bids and other bids that help us get to the right contract.
Saturday, March 7, 9 a.m.–noon and 1:30–4:30 p.m. in the Quail Creek Clubhouse Silver Room. Cost for the day is $10.
If you are interested in attending either or both of these seminars, please contact Gary Mitchell at [email protected] or 520-762-7611 at least one week prior to date of seminar.
Gary also plans to offer some special classes this winter on 2/1 bidding. Stay tuned for details.
