Trips and tours for May – Sabino Canyon and DeGrazia Gallery

Joyce Shumate

In May the TRIPS committee will take a group of 30 residents to Sabino Canyon. Experience the beauty of one of the most unique southwestern desert canyons on a Sabino Canyon tram ride. Sabino Canyon is a natural desert oasis located in Tucson’s Coronado National Forest and is home to spectacular desert landscapes and abundant wildlife. Sabino Canyon tours include a narrated, educational 45-minute, 3.8 mile tour into the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains.

After experiencing the exquisite beauty of Sabino Canyon we will lunch at Trattoria Pina. Nestled in the Catalina Foothills, Trattoria Pina Italian Restaurant is a hidden treasure that offers superb Italian food including veal, fresh seafood, and a large variety of pastas, salads and gourmet pizzas in a wood burning oven. Trattoria Pina Italian Restaurant was established in 1993 by Pina and Fedele. Trattoria Pina provides Tucson with the ultimate dining experience!

After a wonderful lunch continue the tour at The DeGrazia Gallery. At the DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun we will learn about the life, history and philosophy of the prolific artist Ted DeGrazia. The docent will discuss art mediums and techniques, southwest Native American legends and ceremonies, desert horticulture and recycling objects for art, among other topics.

Sign up will begin on April 26. More information will be available in the What’s Happening announcement April 25.
