The women of the Quail Creek Quilt Covey have long admired Sharon Frank’s stunning quilted jackets. Earlier this winter, Sharon offered to teach Covey members how to make the jackets. She called her teacher in New Hampshire, Janice Roy, for some tips and the pattern. Janice graciously suggested she come to Quail Creek to teach the class – and to have a vacation at her own expense. That was the beginning of a wonderful weekend!

From February 5 to 7, the group of 15 women cut strips of fabric, arranged the fabric in a variety of designs and then started sewing. Janice provided hands-on instruction and lots of wonderful tips. The result was 15 unique jackets – some black and white, some all red or purple, some soft greys and blues, others brilliantly multi-colored. All gorgeous! Most importantly, all of the ladies enjoyed learning from each other and had fun socializing together.

The Quilt Covey is a group of quilters (with varying levels of experience) who gather weekly, or more often, to share our love of quilting and all things fabric! The Covey is a social club, offering friendship and learning opportunities for its members, as well as providing service to the community through donations to several community groups.

The Quilt Covey meets every Thursday in the Creative Arts and Technology Building. Members of the Quilt Covey also meet on Mondays to work on community quilts and on Wednesdays to work on Art Quilts. Come visit us in our studio!
