Did you know that there are 47 different restaurants to try along the new street car line in downtown Tucson? How about the fact that Tucson has so many original restaurants that you need ever eat in a chain unless you so desired? What would be a perfect day to entertain guests? One suggestion would be to start with breakfast in the garden at Tohona Chul, then go for a tram ride up Sabino Canyon and end up with a visit to DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun. At the January meeting, The Women of Quail Creek learned all about the countless wonderful things that make Tucson and southern Arizona unique and how to find them from guest speaker Anne Maxson from the VisitTucson organization. VisitTucson promotes Tucson and southern Arizona to encourage visitors to travel here. Anne said that every out of town visitor brings in approximately $200 per day to area businesses which translates into needed additional revenue to support local services. An added feature of her presentation was the demonstration of how to navigate the website, visittucson.org, which has over 7,000 pages of information on southern Arizona attractions. Anything one might need to know about everything, from special events like the Gem Show to specialty shopping, restaurants and entertaining things to do, can be found on the site. The Visitor Center downtown also has guides and pamphlets with area information.
Prior to Anne’s presentation, attendees were treated to an inspirational and moving video by TWOQC webmaster Marianne Cobarrubias about the Honor Flights for WW11 veterans to Washington D.C. TWOQC has supported the program by sponsoring a veteran for a trip and also by writing letters of appreciation to individuals for their service. There will be an Honor Flight in April and possibly an earlier one in March.
