The Tucson Jazz Institute (TJI) will be providing the entertainment for The Women of Quail Creek’s (TWOQC) meeting on May 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the ballroom. Established in 2008, the TJI was created to support Tucson-area band directors and their programs, as well as provide opportunities to middle school and high school students across Southern Arizona to develop skills in instrumental jazz performance. Although housed in Utterback Middle School (a TUSD school), TJI is inclusive of all Tucson-area districts and attracts students from as far away as Nogales and Sierra Vista. TJI’s numerous large and small ensemble class instructors work to develop young musicians in various styles and approaches to America’s unique and living art form, jazz.
The event is open to all TWOQC members, as well as their female guests who have not previously attended a TWOQC event. The concert is free for TWOQC members. There will be a $10-per-person fee for guests. Members must preregister their guests in GroupWorks and pay for them in advance or at the door.
