A sure sign of spring is The Women of Quail Creek (TWOQC) Scholarship Awards Ceremony. This year it’s on May 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Madera Ballroom, and everyone is invited to attend!
The Women of Quail Creek is a charitable organization that has been doing good work in our community for many years, including food and clothing drives and support for veterans and teachers. But their major charitable endeavor is scholarships for local graduating high school seniors and for Women in Transition (WIT) who are older than 21 and hoping to improve their lives through further education.
This has been a banner year for TWOQC’s Scholarship Committee because, since TWOQC received its 501(3)(c) designation in 2021, there has been an influx of scholarship fundraising support, including the highly successful Matching Fund Campaign (2 to 1), several named scholarships, individual donations, and, of course, the ever-popular Javelina Hoedown fundraiser. As a result, the scholarship fund available for high school women seniors and Women in Transition is the largest since its inception in 2017!
During March and April, the TWOQC Scholarship Committee is busy evaluating high school and WIT applications. After evaluation, interviews with those who are selected are conducted via Zoom. Winners are notified, pictures are taken, and then it’s time to celebrate!
The need for such educational support in Pima and Santa Cruz Counties is great, and the results speak for themselves. Prior recipients have gone on to graduate from schools such as Pima County Community College, University of Arizona, University of Northern Arizona, Pima Medical Institute, and the Arizona College of Nursing.
If you contributed to the scholarship fund, if you’ve been considering it, or if you just want to enjoy a heartwarming evening, then by all means make a point of attending this year’s awards ceremony. You will be able to meet the newest scholarship winners and their families, hear their stories, and celebrate with us. You don’t want to miss this event. It’s an incredibly rewarding experience for everyone!
