Each year members of the Quail Creek Book Club bring new children’s books to their December holiday party. These books are distributed to low-income children by the food bank staff.

Laura Reilly, facilitator for the Book Club, was told by employees that these books are the only holiday gifts some children receive. The Book Club has been meeting since 2010, and most of the members have children and grandchildren, some have been teachers or librarians, and all are devoted to lifelong literacy. “We are thrilled to once again provide area children books they can call their own,” says Reilly.

In addition to food distribution, Sahuarita Food Bank and Community Resource Center offers free tax preparation, beginning computer basics, parenting skill classes for both families and dads, and early childhood education. Young adults can learn line and prep cooking skills, welding, and caregiver skills.

“We so appreciate the Quail Creek Book Club and their generous gifts,” said Kellie Tonks, office administrator.
