In keeping with what has become an annual holiday tradition, the Quail Creek Tennis Club (QCTC) ladies spread Christmas cheer on Dec. 8 by combining fellowship and a worthy cause. This year, the Social Committee (Hilary Wade, Sandy Hirdes, Carol Modesto, and Holly Crombie) selected TROT (Therapeutic Riding of Tucson) as the designated recipient.

Guest speaker Susan Hicks, TROT Development Director, outlined TROT’s history as one of the first programs in the United States to provide equine-assisted services to people living with disabilities. Building on horses’ unique ability to “recognize, reflect, and respond to the emotional state of humans, TROT programs foster trust, safety, and deep connections” to a diverse population. There are even special classes for military veterans and first responders. Thousands of individuals from as early as age four have benefited from TROT’s services since its inception in 1974.

Following TROT’s presentation, the ladies enjoyed a tasty taco salad bar lunch and dessert while featured musician Bill Foraker provided holiday-themed music, setting the right tone for this festive occasion. After dessert, Chris Moravchik amped up the holiday spirit by leading a lively round of Christmas carols, accompanied by Bill on the keyboard.

When the luncheon began, guests found a nifty little gift bag filled with goodies at each place setting. Then at the luncheon’s conclusion, one lucky lady at each table found the hidden sticker gifting her with her table’s centerpiece. A festive meal shared with friends plus a worthy purpose to support: Now that’s a winning combination any time of year!
