The Photo Club of Quail Creek (PCQC) continued with its monthly members’ contest, with December having the topic of “Sky,” which basically meant that the photographer chose any topic or subject for themselves. Each club member could enter up to three photos taken in the last three years. This subject drew 32 photos with a wide variety of subjects. All of the photos can be seen on our Flickr site tinyurl.com/bdfcef9n.

Jeff Krueger came in first place with his photo Angry Sky. Jeff commented, “Last August there was a pretty active lightning storm one night which, unfortunately, I was not home to enjoy. By the time I got home, the major storm had passed, but I set up a camera on the back patio anyway. Using a series of 7-second exposure at a mid-aperture of f/5, I was able to capture one of the last dramatic lightning of the evening.”

John Tubs took second place with his photo Sunrise Fire in Quail Creek. John commented, “This image was shot in front of our house on Josephine View. When I let our dog out into the backyard in the morning, the sky was brilliant with one of those nowhere-else-in-the-world Arizona sunrises. I ran back inside, grabbed a camera, and shot some images from several viewpoints. I liked this one the best. In a few minutes, the light show was gone.”

Monte Hudson’s photo Fourth of July placed third. Monte said, “I took this shot in Silver City on an RV trip. As we drove into camp, the sky had this wonderful orange hue, and a rainbow had formed. Then, with the flag, it became a great patriotic photo opportunity for this 4th of July weekend.”

The Photography Club of Quail Creek has a monthly photo contest for its members and schedules numerous photo field trips for members throughout the year. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Kino Conference Center, Mesquite Room. Room venue could vary each month. Consult the club’s constantly updated website www.pcqc.org, as well as the weekday HOA What’s Happening for additional information.
