The Photo Club of Quail Creek (PCQC) continued with its monthly members’ contest with September having the topic of “candid people.” Each club member could enter up to three photos taken in the last three years. This subject was a popular one for the members, as you might expect, and drew 29 entries. All of the photos can be seen on our Flickr site tinyurl.com/mwfzsxch.

Larry Hudson won first place with his photo Fun at Work. Larry commented, “This photo was taken at the inside entrance to a restaurant in Merida, Mexico, on the Yucatan Peninsula. Although I seldom take photos of people, I could not help but try to capture the fun these two ladies were having making tortillas. I found the expression of the lady on the right especially delightful.” Larry used his iPhone 11 Pro, 1/60 sec at f/2.0 and ISO 200.

Shari Rogers took second place with her photo Surprise Kisses. Shari commented, “Nothing is more fun to photograph than a Labrador in a pool with a grandkid. Its moments like these when you are sad you do not have your camera but happy you have your cell phone close by. Totally unexpected but grabbed the shot. Just basic global edits in Photoshop.” Shari used her iPhone SE, shooting 1/380 sec at f/1.8 and ISO 20.

The photo Stepping Out, by Monte Hudson, placed third. Monte said, “This photo was made at Sahuarita Lake. Who can resist a baby? I think the banding formed from the grass and the sidewalk in and out of shade added interest to the background to an already colorful shot.” Monte used a Canon Rebel t6i, 400 mm, 1/500sec, f/9.0, ISO 160.

The Photography Club of Quail Creek has a monthly photo contest for its members and schedules numerous photo field trips for members throughout the year. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Kino Conference Center, Mesquite Room. Room venue could vary each month. Consult the club’s constantly updated website www.pcqc.org, as well as the weekday HOA What’s Happening for additional information.
