After a long break from school, the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) students will be returning to school in early August. But they are already planning their annual car wash for Saturday, Aug. 8 from 8 a.m. to noon, at American Legion Post 66, 1560 W Duval Mine Rd. While there is no set fee for the car wash, the students would appreciate receiving donations.
The NJROTC unit trains students from both Walden Grove and Sahuarita High Schools in Naval Science, citizenship, U.S. Military organization, basic government, and basic health with emphasis on proper eating and exercise. The fourth-year students participate in leadership development training, and get to practice mentoring skills they have learned over the years.
Although the school curriculum is funded by the U.S. Navy, outside monies are needed to support competition fees, trophies, and awards at NJROTC activities during the school year.
During the car wash, the cadets get to practice their leadership skills, team work, and exhibit self-discipline. These teens also support the annual The Women of Quail Creek (TWOQC) clothing drive by lifting and carrying the loaded boxes to the waiting trucks.
Please support our future leaders during the car wash as they remove all the monsoon splatters from your vehicle. You’ll be the envy of your neighborhood as you drive home in a nice clean car.
