The Photo Club of Quail Creek continued into 2017 with its monthly members’ contest having a theme Family. This month it drew another large number of entries – we had 21 shots submitted by members, all of which can be seen on our Flickr site: https://www.flickr.com/photos/129343350@N08/albums/72157679376244033
Jim Burkstrand‘s first place photo, A Happy Dance, was taken was taken in Apple Valley, Minnesota in December 2016. Jim said, “We were at a family memorial celebration at our house. The two cousins, age 7 and 6, were there and had not seen one another for a few months. Happy to see each other, they got into their ‘silly mood’ and started dancing around to the music in their heads.” The photo was shot with a Canon 80D at ISO 125, f/5.0 and at 1/125 sec. It was processed with Lightroom and Photoshop.
The photo Sisters by Doug Mutter placed second. Doug commented: “Sisters was taken at the beach at Coronado, California earlier this year. Carol Mutter and Linda Dice are the sisters. Carol and I vacationed with Linda and her husband Dan in the San Diego area. They were having fun on the beach when I captured this shot.” Doug used a Nikon D3400 with an 18 – 55 zoom lens. The photo was shot at 1/125 sec, f/11 and ISO=125.
Jeff Krueger placed third for his image Hummingbird Siblings taken right here in Quail Creek. Jeff said, “We were sitting on our front patio and I noticed a hummingbird fly around and into our olive tree. After several trips in and out, I went over and found a nest with several baby hummingbirds sitting patiently waiting for dinner. I grabbed a camera and got a couple shots before Mama came back and made it clear I wasn’t welcome. The image was taken with a Canon 7D MkII set at ISO 200, 1/320 sec at f/4. I was using my 100mm Canon Macro lens without flash.”
