Local Hidden Gem

Ron Nowicki

One of the major benefits of living in Quail Creek is our proximity to the University of Arizona. Most of us are aware of the healthcare benefits, the sports opportunities, and the concerts on campus. But there is one more benefit which is even closer to home that may not be recognized: Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, or OLLI. OLLI holds classes at the Community Performance and Arts Center, or CPAC, in Green Valley or online or on the main campus in Tucson.

As an active adult community, one of the body parts that we need to keep active is our brain. OLLI has more than 40 classes scheduled for the upcoming fall-winter semester in the CPAC facility and many more online or in Tucson. I have taken classes, including British Mystery Writers, Opera for Beginners, The Tucson Night Sky, Geology of Madera Canyon, and the History of the Spanish Conquest. As you can tell, there is a very wide range of subjects. Some classes are taught by U of A department heads and others by volunteer experts. All classes are well researched and interesting. Prices vary for the specific program you choose. An annual membership for all online and Green Valley classes runs $235 and entitles you to unlimited classes for an entire year.

I encourage you to check out olli.arizona.edu to see how to join, the available classes, a complete schedule, and the other benefits of OLLI. Do it for your brain and well-being.
