Don Beaver, Director of Fitness
Summer is upon us at Quail Creek, and that not only means higher temperatures and fewer residents on property, but also increased use of outdoor activities at the Anza for both fellow residents and guests—especially visiting kids and grandkids. These changes in our use of Anza facilities triggers the need for me to author a “reminders article” that should serve to increase your overall enjoyment of QC facilities and services.
Aquatics: Naturally, our increased temperatures will result in increased recreational pool usage for both residents and guests. Please remember the following when accessing our pristine aquatics facilities:
* Hours of operation are 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Children under 18 years of age are permitted in the recreational pool 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. daily.
* Children must be toilet trained, and swim diapers are not permitted for attendees of all ages.
* Everyone must shower prior to entering any of our aquatics facilities. This practice significantly reduces downtime that is necessary for pool/spa cleaning.
* Cover-ups and footwear are required of pool attendees when inside the Anza clubhouse. Also, please reduce the risk of a slippery floor by drying off prior to re-entering the Anza.
* Water Aerobics classes are offered between the hours of 8 and 10 a.m. every day except Sundays. These classes are complimentary and open to all residents.
* Lap lane reservations can be made on the QC website up to two weeks in advance. Please honor your reservations or cancel accordingly with plenty of lead time to allow fellow residents the opportunity to reserve a time.
Fitness: Gym participation declines in the summer, but our increased temperatures can sometimes cause one to be more casual than usual.
* Appropriate gym attire is required and defined as gym shorts, yoga pants, shirts, sweatshirts, athletic shoes, etc.
* Denim, cut-offs, sandals/bare feet, midriff-baring attire are examples of inappropriate gym attire. Cell phones are to be silenced, with calls taken either in the foyer or outdoors.
* Given our decreased gym attendance during the summer, the 30-minute limit on cardiovascular equipment can generally be waived. However, please be aware if someone is waiting for the specific piece that you may be using.
* Please park golf carts in the appropriately marked spaces and/or up on the rise adjacent to the Grill that overlooks the Anza parking lot.
Tennis: Summer participation is generally in the morning in an effort to “beat the heat.” The QC Tennis Club schedules tournaments, play days, and social events throughout the year. Courts 3, 4, and 5 are to be resurfaced in May and should be a noticeable improvement for our tennis enthusiasts.
Pickleball: This is the fastest-growing sport in America, and the QC Pickleball Club is certainly proof of that statement, with nearly 700 members and a vibrant program that is both competitive and social in nature. As is the case with tennis, summer participation is primarily in the mornings.
Bocce: This is an enjoyable activity for families, friends, and entire QC unit get-togethers. Reservations can be made on the bocce bulletin board that is adjacent to Court 1. Note: Our four bocce courts are scheduled for resurfacing in June and will require a closing for several days.
Guest Cards: All residents must obtain guest cards for their visiting friends and family members who wish to use the fitness center and/or the aquatics facilities by visiting Member Services in the Madera clubhouse. The process only takes a few minutes, but the convenience it affords is an outstanding benefit to you as well as your guest(s).
Regardless of your activity, remember my April article and stay hydrated during these summer months and … enjoy life’s journey!
