Introducing the 2020 TWOQC Scholarship Winners Video

Peggy McGee

The traditional gathering in April to celebrate the winners of The Women of Quail Creek’s scholarship program was cancelled because of COVID-19. In the past, this event has been opened to the entire Quail Creek community, so the club wanted to share the young ladies’ stories with you. It is because our residents supported the Javelina Hoedown, the raffles, merchandise sales, and the lecture series in 2019 that the Club was able to raise sufficient funds to award over $14,000 in scholarships for the 2020-21 school year.

With the help of Jim Burkstrand, the Scholarship Committee’s honorary member, and his expertise with a camera, a 13-minute video featuring this year’s eight winners was developed. Viewers will be introduced to the 2020 high school graduates Samantha Witterstauter and Haley Duncan from Walden Grove High School and Alexandra Hernandez and Amaya Barnes from Sahuarita High School. The Women in Transition (WIT) winners include April Escarcega, Marisa Acosta, Harley Plasencio, and Jasmine Spear. The WIT Scholarship is presented to older women who wish to return to school to complete their education or to embark on a new career field.

Because the virus has caused the cancellation of the planned Javelina Hoedown in October, the continued support by the Quail Creek community for the scholarship program is appreciated. For further information about the scholarship program, please visit womenqc.com and click on “scholarships.”
