Genealogy Club Recap

Version 1.0.0

Janine Baxter

The Quail Creek Genealogy Club has had a wonderful start to the year, with two engaging meetings featuring outstanding local presenters.

On March 4, members welcomed local researcher and author Sharon Kennedy, who shared her extensive knowledge of the Buffalo Soldiers and their remarkable contributions to American history. Her presentation left a lasting impression on all who attended.

The April 1 meeting proved equally inspiring, as the Santa Cruz Valley Historical Society shared the history of Sahuarita as well as information about the little-known Sahuarita Air Force Range. Operating from the early 1940s to the late 1970s, the range served as a vital training station for bomber crews during both World War II and the Cold War, a piece of local history that few were aware of before this presentation.

The club meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 10 a.m. in the Ocotillo Room. In May, the meeting will be held on the sixth. Visit the club website for specifics on that session. Whether you are a seasoned genealogist or just beginning to explore your family roots, all levels are welcome. There are several members who have the desire and ability to help you start your own research or find your own “missing” ancestor.

Guests are welcome to attend two meetings before committing to membership. Annual dues are $15 for individuals and $25 for two residents in the same household.
