Valley Assistance Services (VAS), a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving the Santa Cruz Valley for 55 years, will be moving its annual fashion show to a new venue this year. It seems they have outgrown Quail Creek’s Crystal Ballroom with its 300-person limit. VAS will hold this year’s show at Desert Diamond Casino Sahuarita Entertainment Center, 1100 W. Pima Mine Road, on Tuesday, Aug. 20. Doors will open at 11 a.m. with lunch being served at noon.
This year’s event, Fashions from Sunrise to Sunset, will feature outfits from Nancy Pantz for daywear, and evening attire from Maya Palace in Tucson. This fundraiser will directly benefit families and individuals in need of support from VAS’ 2,700-rural-square-mile service area extending from Sahuarita to Rio Rico and Arivaca. More than 7,000 persons in our community will benefit from the proceeds of this event. Some of VAS’ varied programs include registered nurse health and wellness advocacy; transportation for medical appointments and grocery shopping; in-person and telephonic visits; fall prevention; mortgage/rent/utility assistance to prevent evictions; financial education; resume writing, career search, and interview coaching; dementia-caregiver support; and illness/disease education.
The luncheon will feature fiesta grilled chicken served with a bean, corn, and tomato relish; tomatillo sauce; rice; and seasonal veggie. Lunch comes with a salad and crème brûlée for dessert. A vegetarian option is available upon request. Non-alcoholic beverages will be available free of charge. There will be a cash bar for purchase of wine and cocktails.
Tickets can be purchased at Valley Assistance Services, 3950 S. Camino Del Heroe; Nancy Pantz; Posada Java; and Green Valley/Sahuarita Chamber of Commerce. Tickets can also be obtained from Quail Creek resident Peggy McGee by email at [email protected] or by phone at 520-207-6188. The cost for the meal and show is $40, with checks payable to VAS. A credit card purchase option is available only at the VAS office.
The Community Performing Arts Center is graciously providing coupons for a $25 discount for its upcoming shows. This coupon will be printed on the back of the tickets, so if you buy a ticket, please do not throw it away after the fashion show. There will also be over 50 silent auction items on which one can bid. The high bidder may pay with cash, check, or credit card.
VAS has set a goal to raise $10,000 at this fundraiser. Will you please help this nonprofit reach their goal so they can continue all the programs and services so vital to many in the community?
