Quail Creek Duplicate Bridge Club members with “Hats for Van” tribute
Jerrod Mason and Bonnie Arnold
Earlier this year, the Quail Creek Duplicate Bridge Club mourned the sudden passing of longtime and much-beloved Van Strom. Van and his wife Nancy were among the strongest players in the club, usually contending for first prize among the 15 to 20 pairs every week. Together with Larry MacCaughey and Jerrod Mason, they even won the Tucson regional team competition, beating out teams from all over the Southwest—twice!
Van had quite a collection of hats and wore a variety of them to bridge every Friday morning. To honor his memory, his favorite derby was on display at the next club game.
We welcome all bridge players who either play duplicate or would like to try duplicate to join us on Wednesday afternoons from 12:45 to 4:30 p.m. and/or Friday mornings from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Silver Room of the clubhouse. We ante $1 per person at the beginning and award the money back to the top winners both north/south and east/west. You will need a partner to sign in, but if you need to find a partner, call Bonnie Arnold at 970-333-7787 and she will work to find a partner for you. When you join us, you are joining a supportive and loving family of bridge players.
