Democratic Club March Meeting: A Border Report March Meeting: A Border Report

Diana Schwartz

The Democratic Club of Quail Creek (DCQC) held its monthly meeting on March 21 in the Ocotillo Room at the Conference Center.

Paul Ingram, senior reporter at the Tucson Sentinel, was the primary speaker of the meeting.

Paul is known for his reporting on border and immigration topics in Southern Arizona. He has won awards for his outstanding on-the-ground coverage. His narratives and photographs document events from multiple perspectives, providing comprehensive and objective accounts as he observes them. Paul says, “The Sentinel reporting hinges on the willingness of people to talk to us during vulnerable moments in their lives, in often austere and dangerous places.” He talked about the changes to asylum and refugee policy under the Trump Administration and the consequence of those changes.

He also presented photographs of the entire border areas as they are today and described the OBBB (One Big Beautiful Bill Act) plans for “The Smart Wall” and how it has and will affect illegal border crossings, animal migration, and the environment.

(Total 1,168 miles planned: 662 miles await action, 77.1 miles currently under construction.)

We thank Paul Ingram for his highly informative and insightful presentation.
