On April 2, Quail Creek Tennis Club members answered that very call for a hoedown at the Longhorn Grill and Saloon in Amado, Ariz. Seventy-nine members and guests traded tennis shoes for cowboy boots before moseying on down for some tasty vittles and fine country-western music and dancing.
A social hour with open bar whet appetites for the buffet dinner that followed. Offered up were chicken thighs, barbecue ribs, salad, mac and cheese, grilled green beans, campfire beans, stuffed poblano peppers with sweet potato, cornbread, peach cobbler, ice cream, and beverages.
Acclaimed vocalist Maddie Paschal entertained folks with an outstanding selection of traditional and modern country classics. Cowboys strutted their stuff, and cowgirls’ flowing skirts swished to Paschal’s toe-tapping selections. It’s no surprise that western wear was the theme of the evening, with a creative assortment of Stetson hats, Levi’s jeans, southwestern skirts, and colorful bandanas, although a few non-traditionalists insisted their Hawaiian shirts were “western,” just Western Hawaii. But truth be told, no one was really fooled! Still, it was all in good fun.
“Sheriff” Rick Wade (aka club president) thanked everyone for coming to this end-of-year annual banquet, bidding a sad farewell to our winter visitors. He also acknowledged the QC Tennis Club’s hardworking Social Committee by thanking Cindy Gong, Sylvia Arnold, Chris Moravchik, and Dinah Shumway for yet another fabulous and fun event.
