The Green Valley Chapter Military Officers of America Association (MOAA) awarded $2,500 scholarships to three cadets for outstanding leadership, community involvement, and contributions to their units.

Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Cadet Shayla Blair from Sahuarita High School hopes to pursue a career in mental health therapy at ASU. Naval Cadet Landon Palmer from Walden Grove High School plans to attend BYU with a major in either mechanical or aerospace engineering.

Cadet Christopher Pena, who participated in the Air Force JROTC program at Nogales High School, received a scholarship named in honor of the late Richard G. Newman (former, U.S. Army 1st Lieutenant), one of the past presidents of the GV MOAA Chapter. LT Newman secured special grants to assist students in Santa Cruz County. Cadet Pena, who plans to initially attend Pima Community College, eventually hopes to pursue a career in a medical or health-related field.
