American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held Sunday, September 24, 2017, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Madera Clubhouse Silver Room.
Power Red Machines for Power Red Donations
What It Is: An automated/machine blood draw (single use) where approximately 1 ½ pints of Red Blood Cells are collected while Plasma, Platelets and Saline are returned back to the donor.
Eligible donor blood types: O-, O+, A-, and B-
Other Requirements: Minimum height and weight for females is 5’5” 150 lbs. and males is 5’1” 130 lbs. Approximately 15 to 20 additional minutes longer than a whole blood draw.
Benefits for Donors: Smaller needle than whole blood donation. Donors typically say they feel better afterwards due to the replenishment of their Platelets, Plasma and Saline. Donation wait period is 112 days which means a maximum of three donations are allowed within a year timeframe, so if someone wants to make a maximum whole blood donation allowable in a year, they would have to make six Whole Blood donations as opposed to only three Power Red donations. A Power Red donation counts as two units towards the blood drive goal, so odds of hitting goal are doubly increased with a single Power Red Donation. The blood is processed right then and there so the potential to save a life is exponentially faster than a whole blood unit which must be sent to our processing facility in Pomona, California.
