Jerry Dirks and Alphie Smith, Quail Creek Billiards Club
For the love of the game of pool, men and women join the Quail Creek Billiards Club (QCBC) to improve their skills, to challenge themselves, and to socialize with those who share their passion.
QCBC promotes fellowship and good sportsmanship among club members and provides a fun and friendly environment that encourages active participation in billiards. QCBC became a chartered club in 2017. Its by-laws were developed, and a board of directors (BOD) was established.
The BOD keeps the club active and oversees the daily activities of QCBC. The current board is made up of eight leaders: President Jerry Dirks, Vice President Bryce Dohrman, Treasurer and Communications Chair Jim Hall, Secretary Kay Mertes, Training Coordinator John Andersen, Traveling Tournament Coordinator Dennis Desmond, In-House Tournament Coordinator Mike Ohrel, and Publicity Coordinator Mary Smith.
Some of the recent accomplishments of the BOD include:
• Monthly in-house tournaments
• Active, regional Travel Team
• Training skills for members
• Membership pizza party
• Ongoing maintenance of supplies, tables, and cues
• Billiards Room security camera
• Member handicap rating system to help equalize tournament competition
• Membership and community communications to further promote QCBC
The Billiards Room at Madera clubhouse was renovated and expanded during the Summer of 2022. Since its reopening in October of that year, all QC residents have greatly enjoyed the four new nine-foot Diamond Championship tables. The club continues to make the Billiards Room a welcoming place for everyone.
Not only do members enjoy in-house and travel team tournaments, but they also participate in scheduled play each week. The ladies play every Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., and the general membership plays every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 to 11 a.m.
The Billiards Room continues to be a vital part of the Madera clubhouse, and the QCBC maintains it as a first-class space in which to enjoy the games of pool: 8-ball, 9-ball, 10-ball, and more.
Stay cool this summer, be part of the action, and join in the fun by becoming a QCBC member. Annual club membership cost is only $15. To join the club, contact Jim Hall at 425-591-7488.
