Mark the calendar and clean out the closets. Saturday morning, November 1, The Women of Quail Creek will hold its annual clothing drive for homeless veterans and families. TWOQC volunteers will be accepting donations from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the parking lot in front of the Madera Clubhouse.
Tucson’s VA hospital has 2,363 veterans registered this year in the Homeless Program; 216 are female. Suggested items for donation include knitted hats and scarfs, sweatshirts, jackets, sweaters, jeans and slacks, tee-shirts and backpacks. New and gently used clean clothing in good repair will be accepted. All underwear and socks must be new.
Veterans and families that are going into housing need kitchenware, laundry detergent, all-purpose cleaners, dish soap, toilet paper and kitchen trash bags. Small appliances, twin sized bed linens and other small household items are also needed. Donations of bikes would be welcome; vets can use them to get back and forth to work.
Patients in the VA Hospital are in need of new razors and shaving cream, denture cleaner and adhesive, bar soap, lotions, full and travels sized toiletries, notepads and greeting cards.
Receipts for tax purposes will be available. Questions about the project should be directed to Peggy McGee at [email protected] or 520-207-6188 or Janice Pell at [email protected] or 520-867-6262.
