The Green Valley Chapter Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) extends its sincere thank you to the residents who so generously supported the annual Food for the Troops collection over the 4th of July weekend. When the almost 300 pounds of food was presented to Michaelena “Mikie” Hoeye, Airman and Family Readiness Program Manager, 162nd Fighter Wing, AZ Air National Guard, she commented that the donations were extremely timely, because she had given away the last jars of peanut butter and jelly the previous week. It was obvious that many residents remembered the airmen as they made their Costco runs just before the holiday.

In addition to the groceries, residents’ monetary donations totaled $435, all of which will be used to buy turkeys for the troops at Thanksgiving time. And many must have liked the looks of the Ford Maverick truck being raffled by Jim Click. Raffle ticket sales earned the Chapter $1,055 for its scholarship program for JROTC cadets from high schools in Nogales, Rio Rico, and Sahuarita.

The lucky winner of the 50/50 raffle was Terry Taylor who got $229 as her part of the pot.
