Tom Cadwalader won first place in the Photography Club’s November contest with his image Three Ponies, captured in Oostvaardersplassen, Netherlands, during a birding trip. The theme for the month was “Three.” Tom said the Konik ponies are part of a major re-wilding project that uses large grazers like these ponies to create a self-regulating ecosystem. He said the ponies, which are about the size of our mustangs, create some controversy because of the harsh winter environment they face. Olympus OM-1, 150mm, f/4.5, 1/1600 sec, ISO 3200
Jim Burkstrand won second place with Three for History, which was taken at the Davis Monthan Air Show last spring. Jim said he always enjoys this show “for the opportunity to capture our aircraft in flight and to visit the static exhibitions and interact with the flight crews.” He said, “The lead plane in this group of three is a Grumman F8F Bearcat, a vintage carrier-based fighter. The trailing two planes are Navy McDonald Douglas Super Hornets, also carrier-based today.” Canon EOS 90D, 211mm, f/6.3, 1/2000 sec, ISO 100, Exp -0.3. The raw capture was post processed in Lightroom Classic.
Larry Hudson won third place with Three for Sunset, an image of three people on a beach in Cancun, Mexico. The photo was taken with an iPhone 17 Pro (settings unavailable).
