Linda Porter, Unit Representative
We hope that you attended the presentation on the new single-service trash provider, Waste Connections, which will begin on Sept. 1, 2025. This program is still in its infancy, and details are continuing to emerge. Even if you were unable to attend, this information is for all residents. However, this article focuses on seasonal residents who will be departing in the coming months.
Before we move ahead to the fall, this is your reminder that prior to leaving Quail Creek for the summer, to terminate trash collection service with your current provider and have your carts picked up. There is no reason for you to incur needless charges from a company that you will no longer be using. The only exception to this is if you are currently using Waste Connections. Your contract will be converted, and your carts will be changed to Sahuarita-specific carts. This will happen when you return.
At the Sahuarita Town Council meeting in January, their legal counsel said that the Town would support residents in trying to get cart-return fees waived, which continues to be an ongoing process. Currently, if you are a WM customer and you did not sign a contract when you began service with them, then, technically, you are not obligated to pay cart-return fees. Unfortunately, it’s not something you can count on. What you can expect is to have to negotiate with them. If you’re unable to avoid paying any charges at all, there is a chance that your cart-return fees might be reduced by 50%. But it is also not a guarantee. At the time of publication, no information was available on cart-return fees at Republic.
After you cancel services with your current trash provider, please keep the following in mind: If you were being invoiced quarterly through auto-pay, it will be particularly important to go into your account profile and delete your method of payment on file, whether it’s your checking account or a credit card. Do not assume that your method of payment will never again be charged once your account has ended.
I encourage you to stay informed about setting up an account with Waste Connections before your return to Quail Creek. You will be able to find the most up-to-date information by visiting www.sahuaritaaz.gov, as well as potential forthcoming articles in What’s Happening at Quail Creek.
