Caring Hearts & Hands of Quail Creek (CHHQC) once again delivered one of the largest baby showers (60 expectant moms and dads) for the 162nd Wing of the Air National Guard in Tucson on National Armed Forces Day, May 20. And what a party it was! The 162nd Mess Hall was transformed into a Noah’s Ark with balloons, decorated tables, and the now famous handmade Ark. Each expectant mother was showered with a handmade diaper bag stuffed with newborn to 18-month-old baby clothes, quilts, blankets, bibs, and infant accessories. And parents went home with a large bag of diapers, a laundry basket filled to the brim with baby hygiene products, and strollers for any family that needed one. Expectant mothers also received a “Mom’s Bag” with personal items for coping as a new mom. And, of course, a photo booth (made into an arch of balloon flowers), courtesy of Pam Rogers and Nancy Hatch.
All these gifts were lovingly handmade or purchased by the caring hearts of many people in our community. The Green Valley Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Madera Post 131 funded the infant hygiene products and baskets, the QC Quilt Covey once again spent hours making baby quilts and blankets, and the QC Putters shopped for baby clothes, bibs, and burp cloths. White Elephant donated gently used and some new baby clothes. Medicare A to Z donated a grocery cart liner for each baby. Operation Homefront provided food from Baggin’s.
And, most importantly, the QC residents and surrounding communities participated with monetary donations, along with their time and effort, to buy baby clothes, make afghans and blankets, and sew baby accessories.
CHHQC wants to again thank the generous and thoughtful Quail Creek residents for their help and support over the past six months with monetary donations and gifts in kind. Collectively, we have let our underserved military families know they are appreciated and supported.
