Quail Creek Republicans filled the Ocotillo and Mesquite Rooms at the Kino Conference Center on Friday morning, Jan. 20, in the first meeting of the new year. Officers elected at the Christmas Wine/Cheese event in December were installed by Town of Sahuarita Mayor Tom Murphy. Officers elected for 2023 are as follows:
Rich Ulery, President
Pat Colburn, 1st Vice President
Kathy Kimbrell, 2nd Vice President
Doug Shumway, Secretary
Steve Lewis, Treasurer
Lin Sanford, Membership
Terri Hartin, Programs
Rick Swenson, At-Large
Bill Price, At-Large
Rich introduced Mayor Murphy, along with Town Councilwoman Diane Priolo. Mayor Murphy gave an informative presentation on economic development in Sahuarita and the new Quail Crossing Blvd. extension connecting Quail Creek to the commercial centers in Sahuarita, which he termed the Town’s Christmas present to Quail Creek. He received an enthusiastic round of applause from the packed house. He spoke at length about the mining activities and plans of the Copper World project in the Santa Rita Mountains and answered numerous questions. We discussed the possibility of scheduling an open forum for Quail Creek residents that would present all sides of the issue.
President Ulery summarized a few of the upcoming events of the Quail Creek Republican Club. On Friday, Feb. 17, we will again welcome Art Del Cueto as the featured speaker. Art has been with the Border Patrol since 2003 and served as the vice president of the National Border Patrol Council and currently serves as president of Local 2544 in the Tucson sector. He is a national spokesperson and expert on border issues. If you want the truth about conditions on our Southern Border, don’t miss this Feb. 17 meeting. Rich also announced plans for a bus tour to the Arizona State Capitol in Phoenix on Wednesday, March 15, including a Capitol and museum tour, a private session with our Sen. David Gowan, and attendance at a committee meeting and general session. Watch for details on this exciting and educational event. Additional events throughout 2023 will include dynamic speakers and a summer Lee Cornelison Kegger. More information and membership information can be found at www.quailcreekrepublicans.com.
