“City of Murals” is another nickname for Tucson, where many downtown buildings display bright, expressive scenes. They capture the heritage, natural landscape, resilience, and defining events of the city’s cultural history. You may have seen them, but do you know their stories?
In November, 13 The Women Of Quail Creek (TWOQC) attendees went on an exclusive Mainly Murals Walking Tour to learn about their importance, the process for creating a “larger than life” scene, and the stories they represent. This docent-led, 2-mile walking tour was developed by the downtown Presidio Museum. They are a treasure! Dorothy, the Presidio docent, developed the walk and wrote a book about the 20 beautiful murals the group saw. The story of each mural includes the muralist’s background and/or the graffiti. After the walk, the group enjoyed lunch at The Monica. For more information on the murals, go to www.tucsonaz.gov/muralmap.
