On August 31, the annual “Niners – Duffer Tournament” took place with a 7:30 shotgun for the 13 foursomes who played. The golf course and the weather were great and the golfers were incredible. Over half the groups posted scores of five and six under par for this “Best Ball Scramble”; however, par was set for this event at 46. But really, the winning foursome was ten under par, scoring at 36, and was comprised of Julie Ratley and Mary Talton representing the Lady Niners, and Ed Mancini and Bobb Jelen representing the Desert Duffers. Congratulations to them all.
After golf, everyone was invited to the Madera patio for refreshments. It was rumored that the Duffers were hosting and purchasing refreshments for the Lady Niners. Once again, this event brings the opportunity for these two clubs to experience the camaraderie with each other.
Golf pro Joel Jaress was present to track and post the scoring, along with congratulating the winners, distributing the multitude of trophies and of course, paying out the “very substantial prize money.”
A special thanks to the President of the QC9LGA Cheri Sipe and her husband, QCMNGA President Russ Sipe, for coordinating this year’s annual tournament. Their efforts were just great.
