Linda Matsen held on for a 20-17 victory over Rick Kimes to capture the 2016 Super Roll IX Championship.
This was the ninth year for Lance and Diane Manning to host their Super Roll party. As in past years, the Super Roll competition was loud, rowdy and full of trash-talking fun. The competition was fierce as 28 Quail Creek residents started the tournament. By the championship game’s halftime Linda Matsen took home the trophy. Linda also earned $25 as Super Roll champion and Rick settled for the $20 Conference Champion money.
It was not the usual pre-game tailgating for the big game, as Chef Diane Manning, assisted by sous chef Coni Jewett, prepared an array of appetizers including chilled shrimp, toasted ravioli with marinara, salmon tartare, brie stuffed mushrooms, jalapeno poppers, mascarpone and chive sauce with baked pita, soppressata and gruyere puff pastry. At halftime Diane brought out garlic chicken parmesan, Boar’s Head ham, spinach salad with orange zest vinaigrette, Bok Choy/mango salad and garlic cheese bread. Dessert included pineapple upside down cake and a German Chocolate cake courtesy of Carolyn Hart.
Nobody left hungry!
Other Super Roll winners were Frank Baker and Denny Huber, each taking home the $10 Division Champion prize money. The Big Game Big Board winners included Dreama and Skip Fumia for the first quarter score, followed by Wayne and Coni Jewett at halftime, Jerry Smith and Tari Wright for the third quarter and Debbie and Denny Huber with the final 24-10 score as the Denver Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers.
