The Quail Creek Performing Arts Guild will be presenting Neil Simon’s Oscar-Winning play, California Suite on April 11, 12 and 13.
This production will take you through four personal stories that take place in Suite 203 of the Beverly Hills Hotel.
First, you will meet a divorced couple who are trying to iron out the complexities involving the custody of their 17-year-old daughter. The mother, Hannah, has flown out from New York to meet with her ex-husband. She is a no-nonsense sophisticate and is ready to do battle with Billy for her child. Billy has adopted the laid-back life style of California and is a successful Hollywood screen writer.
Also, picture a middle-aged husband waking up in the Suite to discover a drunk and unconscious “hooker” lying next to him. Marvin has to quickly deal with the fact that his wife, Millie, will be flying out to meet him and will arrive at any moment. Sweat pours, clothes fly, panic rises and then, the inevitable knock at the door.
Arriving at the hotel is a British couple who have flown out from London to attend the Academy Awards. Diana has been nominated for Best Actress and her husband, Sydney, is along for the gin and tonics and parties. Diana’s nervousness, added to her many pre-award drinks, promises much wit and typically understated British humor. The audience will soon discover that they share a very unique relationship.
Finally, Mort and Beth along with their best friends Stu and Gert, are at the end of a three-week road trip. While playing tennis at the hotel, Beth injures her foot and husband Mort feels that it is Stu’s fault. Once inside the Suite, tempers begin to flare and soon escalate into a mixture of adolescent anger and further injuries. It is obvious that this has truly become the vacation from Hell.
