Mary Cerny, Barb Poltl, Gwen Mowat and Max Perzan of the Quail Creek Needlework Club spent Saturday, July 18 creating 49 drawstring bags for Tucson children. The club has supported Aviva Children’s Services for many years, but this was the first time members participated in the annual sew-a-thon at the Women’s Center in Tucson. The ladies were part of the 99 volunteers who produced 1,475 cloth bags in five hours. Last year close to 6,000 bags were distributed to children being removed from dangerous or unstable home situations. Without these cloth bags the children would be given plastic garbage bags for their personal possessions.
Unfortunately, there continues to be a need for bags and the Needlework Club is committed to producing more. The club will gladly accept your unwanted fabric. Visit us in the new Creative Arts and Tech Center on Tuesday mornings, 9:00 a.m. to noon and Friday afternoons, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
